Und herzlich willkommen zu unserer Folge Bücher Alarm. Heute aus Berlin mit der Sophie-Scholl-Schule am Kleistpark und der Geschichte The Magic Mirror von Josh Lacey. The year, 1588. The place, London. The man, John D., the greatest magician in the world. The problem, his magic wasn't working. Why not? So beginnt Josh Lacey's The Magic Mirror, eine spannende Geschichte über Zeitreisen, Zauberei und die zentrale Bedeutung von Freundschaft. Die Klasse 7-12 der Sophie-Scholl-Schule in Berlin hat das Buch im Rahmen des Englischunterrichts gelesen. Bevor wir euch erzählen, worum es in dem Buch überhaupt geht und warum es uns so gut gefallen hat, wollen wir uns selbst kurz vorstellen. Our team, our class 7-12, goes to the Sophie-Scholl-School in the capital of Germany, Berlin. In 1945, our school was named Sophie-Scholl. Little reminder, Sofie Shaw was born in 1921 and was a political activist. She was behelded for being anti-Nazi-resistant. We really like our school, because the school supports many organisations to help, for example, the refugees from Ukraine. The school system is also very environmentally friendly and everybody is welcome. That's why we have a lot of diversity in our school. In our class, we have nationalities from around the world.

For example, Canada, Burkina Faso and France. We are happy to present you the magic mirror. The last few weeks we read and talked about the book. Our teacher, Ms. Spieler, led us in all the adventures we had. The special thing in this book is that you can choose either to read the whole book or if you read a written group, you can read the book from the point of view of only one character. Now we will present you the book and have fun.

Fangen wir mal ganz von vorne an. Wer ist eigentlich Josh Lacey? Da fragen wir doch am besten mal Emma und Ona, ob sie uns ein bisschen mehr über ihn erzählen können. Hello, today we will present you Josh Lacey. He's the author of The Magic Mirror. Hello Emma, when was he born? He was born 68 in London. And he wrote several children's books, right? Yes, and one for adults, called God is Brazilian, and it's a biography of Charles William Miller. Thanks Emma for the short interview. Das Buch ist 2019 erschienen und beginnt mit dem eben geschilderten Dilemma des John Dee, seines Zeichens Hofzauberer von Königin Elisabeth I. Er soll die spanische Armada zerstören, scheint aber von allen magischen Geistern verlassen zu sein. Es klappt einfach nicht. In seiner Verzweiflung versucht er Dämonen zu beschwören und es gelingt ihm. Fast. Wie sich nämlich wenig später herausstellt, sind die Dämonen, die John Dee beschwört, nicht ganz das, was er sich gewünscht hatte. Im zweiten Kapitel des Buches springen wir aus dem London der 1580er Jahre in das des 21. Jahrhunderts, genau genommen in einen Schulbus, der sich auf dem Weg ins British Museum befindet. Was ist das?

Eine der Besonderheiten von The Magic Mirror ist übrigens, dass ihr euch, je nach Interesse und oder Sprachniveau, beim Lesen für eine Figur entscheiden könnt, der ihr dann durch die Geschichte folgt. Das nennt man ein Teamreader-Konzept und es macht tatsächlich extra viel Spaß, der ihr euch dann immer gegenseitig updaten könnt, was eure Figur alles so erlebt hat. Zusätzlich gibt es aber natürlich auch Kapitel, die von allen gelesen werden.

Genau wie der Angriff der spanischen Armada auf England beruht übrigens auch die Figur des John Dee auf historischen Tatsachen. Dazu wollen wir doch gerne noch ein bisschen mehr Hallo, heute presentieren wir euch die Geschichte von John D. John D. ist eigentlich ein realer Mensch und er ist 13. Juli 1527 und hat im Dezember 1608 oder March 1609. Wir wissen nicht wirklich. Er war ein englischer Mathematiker, Astronomer, Astrologer, Teacher, Occultist und Alchemist. Der Name D kommt aus dem Welch word D, das bedeutet Black. Er hat eine der größten Bibliotheien in England. Er war für Elisabeth und er hat und erholt und erholt. Aber dann wurde erholt, weil es Black magic war. Aber eigentlich, er hat es nicht gemacht. 1542, er hat die St. John's College in Cambridge. Dort er hat seine Bachelor of Arts. Nur einige wenige Stunden später finden sich die drei in einer ganz anderen und auch einigermaßen bedrohlichen Situation wieder. Und zwar eingesperrt in einer Gefängniszelle im Tower of London im Jahr 1588. In the morning they were woken not down by light floating through the small window. Six soldiers were stationed by the end of the bridge. One of them recognized Drum D., You there, halt! The soldiers drew their swords. For a moment, Trondi didn't move, nor did his son, or the three children from the future. Then, Trondi and Leila ran to the left. Arthur and Noah ran to the right. And Ruby stood still, not moving, just smiling.

The book is so vividly described that you can imagine every situation. We like the illustrations in the book as well as the cover very much. Thanks to the simple language and the vocabulary list, you can understand the text well. We find it interesting how the relationship between the three main characters has developed. We also would love to experience such adventures and travel back in time. We can recommend the books for all teenagers. We are glad that our class got the opportunity to participate in this podcast project. It was a nice new experience. Es war auch eine gute Möglichkeit, die Englisch-Language praktizieren.
